Man arrested after police searches near Metrocentre in Gateshead; Northumbria Police said searches were taking place on Thursday afternoon for a wanted man.

A man has been arrested following a police search around the Metrocentre.

On Thursday afternoon, officers with search dogs were seen around the shopping mall in Gateshead.

There was also a police presence in the widerSwalwellarea.

Northumbria Police said they were carrying out inquiries as part of an investigation to locate a man wanted forbreaching bailconditions.

The force said that there was no wider risk to the public.

On Friday, police confirmed that an arrest had been made.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson told ChronicleLive: "A 35-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody at this time."
