AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Australian police have said that a prankster who made a false claim of carrying explosives aboard a domestic Virgin Blue flight between Brisbane and Darwin has been charged with making threats and false statements.

The man, who told the cabin crew that he was carrying explosives, was reportedly handed over to the police on arrival. He had allegedly told the cabin crew that he had 13 pounds of explosives strapped to his body.

The man told the cabin crew that he was joking and confirmed the claim, but the airline has said that it takes security matters very seriously, The Associated Press reported. The name of the man has not been released.
