Man arrested after South Shields barber shop robbed by knife-wielding man; Police said no one was injured during the incident at Scotty's Barber Shop, in Green Lane, and extra officers are on patrol in the area.

Scotty's Barber Shop, Green Lane, South Shields

A man has been arrested after a robbery in South Shields.

Police said a man burst in to Scotty's Barber Shop, in Green Lane, at 4.25pm, before threatening staff and making off from the scene.

No one was injured during the incident.

Extra officers are in the area to speak to the local community and offer reassurance.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently in police custody.

Inspector Steve Appleton said: "We know incidents such as this cause concern to the local community and I'd like to reassure people that extra officers will remain in the area.

"I'd ask anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could help in our enquiries to come forward and get in contact."
