Man, 24, dies following Audi and BMW smash.

A MAN has died after an Audi and BMW collided.

Emergency services were called to reports of a smash involving an Audi S3 and BMW M135i on St Helens Road, in Bolton, at 11.30pm on Monday.

The BMW passenger, a 24-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries but died.

Three other people were also taken to hospital suffering with minor injuries.

Two men, aged 23 and 27, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They both remained in custody for questioning.

St Helens Road was sealed off until the early hours of yesterday while investigation work took place.

Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are keen to speak to a driver in a light coloured car who was travelling along St Helens Road before turning left into Plodder Lane after the collision took place.

Sgt Brian Orr, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "A man has sadly lost his life as a result of this collision. Our thoughts remain with his family at this very sad time."

He added: "I would encourage any witnesses, or anyone with dashcam footage, to please get in touch as soon as possible."

Anyone with information can call GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 or 101, quoting incident number 3266 of 09/09/2019 - or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
