Man's attempt to abduct female Salu student foiled.
SUKKUR -- Abduction of a female student of the Shah Abdul Latif University (Salu) was foiled by security guards, students and some other people present at the gate of the university, police reported on Tuesday.
The MA final-year student was standing at the gate of the university with some of her class-fellows when a car pulled up and its occupant, stated to belong to an influential family of Khairpur, tried to drag the woman into the vehicle. However, her class-fellows resisted his attempt which led to a brawl. The woman shouted for help and tried to escape, falling unconscious during the course of the struggle. Her hue and cry also drew attention of the university's security guards, who rushed to her rescue.
The would-be abductor drove away. The students present at the scene claimed that the suspect was also a class-fellow of the woman. They believed that he tried to take her away from her friends 'out of jealousy'.
Salu students' affairs director Syed Mehdi Shah Rashdi arranged transportation of the unconscious woman to the Khairpur Civil Hospital. After regaining consciousness, she recorded her statement at the Khairpur police station, according to Salu spokesman Taj Lashari.
