Malaysia : Two Year Contract Extension For MRT Corp CEO.

The Government has approved a two-year extension of the contract of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Dato' Sri Shahril Mokhtar.

With this extension, Shahril will serve as CEO of the company until 31 December 2018. MRT Corp is fully owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated, and is the developer and owner of the Klang Valley MRT Project.

MRT Corp Chairman Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said Shahril's good leadership of MRT Corp has been recognised by the Government and was an asset during this critical period when the first MRT Line, the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line, was about to become operational.

"The Government has decided that Shahril's continued leadership of MRT Corp was needed to see both phases of the SBK Line become operational in December this year and July next year," he said.

Ali, who is also Chief Secretary to the Government, added that the construction of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line (SSP Line) would be picking up speed over the next few years and Shahril's experience would augur well to ensure that the challenges faced by the initial stages of construction were overcome. The ground breaking for the SSP Line is expected to take place at the end of August 2016.

Shahril took over the helm of MRT Corp on 1 January 2015. Before taking up the position, he was Group Managing Director of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd.
