Malaysia : MOU inked by MRT Corp to boost occupational safety and health.
Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), the owner and developer of the Klang Valley MRT Project, will work with CIDB Holdings Sdn Bhd and National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) to improve occupational safety and health (OSH) on the project sites.
a memorandum of understanding was inked by MRT Corp and project delivery partner, MMC Gamuda KVMRT Sdn Bhd, with CIDB Holdings and Niosh at the KVMRT Training Centre in Sungai Buloh.
The MoU facilitates the establishment of mutual cooperative programmes and activities that will develop, improve and sustain the OSH culture as well as the delivery of an enhanced OSH programme for the KVMRT Project.
The areas of cooperation under the MoU are raising of awareness; developing skills and competency, especially in high-risk activities; consultancy; and information sharing. The MoU in addition offers the platform for collaboration between the parties for research and development of standards and policies for occupational health and safety.
The MoU signatories were CIDB Holdings chief executive officer Abdul Latif Hitam, Niosh executive director Rosli Hussin, MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar and MMC Gamuda KVMRT Sdn Bhd director Datuk Azmi Mat Nor.
The signing of the document was witnessws by Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and CIDB Holdings chairman Datuk Seri Prof Dr Judin Abdul Karim.
Shahril in his speech said that he hoped the collaboration would result in higher OSH standards in Malaysia s construction sector.
He said, This will enable the KVMRT Project to become an example in terms of best practice in the area of occupational safety and health .
Fadillah in addition officially opened the KVMRT Training Centre developed by MRT Corp and MMC Gamuda.
Training based on an enhanced OSH programme for the KVMRT Project, through the collaboration with CIDB Holdings and Niosh, will be carried out at the centre.
The improved programme will see the introduction of the Safety Passport Scheme, Master Trainer Scheme and the Safety, Health and Environment Performance Assessment Scheme.
Shahril said, This collaboration will see the enhancement of OSH standards for the entire KVMRT Project .
