A soft-toy version of an adorable animated spider created by an animator fromCaliforniahas received 40,000 pre-orders in just 10 days.

It is estimated that pre-orders will cross 60,000 during the 30-day pre-sale period, generating at least $1.2 million (Dh4.4 million approx).

Joshua Slice became popular when he came up with a cute animated spider to help people with arachnophobia - irrational fear of spiders.

Slice, now set to become a millionaire, gave the creepy crawlies a cute spin with his 'Lucas the Spider' animation video, racking up 100 million views on YouTube in six months.

The talking arachnid melted hearts whilst discussing predicaments of being a spider, likehaving too many eyes.

The voice-over in the video was made by Slice's 5-year-old nephew Lucas, the original Lucas.

"To bring Lucas to life by way of a soft lovable toy that contains the voice of Lucas has been an exciting part of an unexpected journey. We're very thankful that so many people could come together over an unexpected love for a spider," Slice was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.

The viral animation creator added the money will go towards a college fund for his nephew, as well as charities and the rest will go for further animations.

"Lucas the Spider started as a curiosity for whether spiders could in fact be cute," explained Joshua, who has worked on Pixar and Disney's Zootopia and Big Hero 6.
