Make your nomination now!

Users of the CPI Financial website ( will be aware that the process of narrowing down the shortlists for this year's Islamic Business & Finance Awards has already begun.
If you aren't a user of our website then may I take this opportunity to direct you to it as an excellent way of keeping up with developments in Islamic finance around the world! But I digress. My focus now is on our awards process. For the first time with our Islamic Business & Finance Awards we are involving you, the readership, at the earliest possible stage in the process.
The awards categories have been chosen -- 27 in total. There are two write-in categories in which we will, in the run-up to the awards themselves, solicit your proposals for Lifetime Achievement and Islamic Banker of the Year. We have judges from around the world supplying us with their proposed shortlists in the other categories. As you will know from previous years, these shortlists are put together to create a final shortlist that is then offered on our website for you to vote on.
However, for the first time, this year we have allotted one place on the shortlist to you. We are asking readers to nominate institutions for the final shortlist in each of the 25 categories where such lists are being compiled. The most popular name offered by you in each category will be added to the shortlist for the final vote. Of course, all nominated institutions must operate under Shari'ah law. On the nomination page on our website you will find full details of the awards methodology.
We operate a peer vote process for these nominations -- only registered readers of Islamic Business & Finance and registered users of our website are eligible to vote. Let me make clear that you may vote in our nominations process by writing in the name of the institutions that you favour and once the final shortlists are available on our website you may vote again in the final selection of the winners.
You may now visit our website and make your nominations. I would urge you to do so and I would urge you to use your vote later this year. It is more important than ever that we mark the success and quality of Islamic finance and of Islamic financial institutions as the world continues to search for a new paradigm for business and finance.
In this edition we focus on two areas where there is huge growth potential for Islamic finance, family Takaful in Pakistan and banking in Indonesia -- the world's most populous Muslim nation. In these sectors in both countries there are significant gains to be made in addressing needs that are not being satisfied by conventional financial institutions. Islamic finance now has an opportunity to show its mettle in these countries.
With our awards later this year, we hope, with your help, to be able to celebrate Islamic financial institutions around the world that have demonstrated their quality in financial performance and service delivery.
Robin Amlot Managing Editor CPI Financial
2009 CPI Financial.
