Make use of the empty buildings; Yousay IN YOUR OPINION...

WITH regard to "Sleeping rough for one night" (You Say, December 6), the councillors say: "Cardiff council continues to work alongside Huggard and other charities to make supporting the homeless a priority".

Well, why doesn't Cardiff Council commandeer some of the empty properties in Cardiff? There are shops and commercial buildings, etc - some probably due for redevelopment, some empty for months - even to use in the short term. Beds, mattresses, couches etc could easily be obtained by people donating unwanted items or even diverted from the tip (no disrespect intended - perfect items are often thrown away).

Get the electricity on, put in a portable cooking stove and the job's done. While the Huggard Centre and other charities do an excellent job, nobody should be sleeping rough in (almost) 2012.

Well done to the councillors mentioned, but I would imagine the pounds 500 raised will not go far.

Also, there are plenty of businesses I would imagine that could donate food (supermarkets?) that would otherwise be thrown out.
