Make opening hours clearer; Yousay IN YOUR OPINION...

HAVING read recently about the idea of shopping locally for a week, aiming to make our purchases from small shops rather than from the supermarket "giants", may I make a special request which private shopkeepers, and also market stall-holders in the Central Market, may like to consider.

This is to have their hours of trading clearly displayed.

Many of us like to use the small shops and it is often possible to buy items which are a little different, and also people running their own business will often be willing to stock items which customers request and will buy regularly.

However, I do find their opening hours can be a little haphazard.

I found this a while ago with some of the businesses in the arcades, and also some of the stalls in the Central Market aren't open for the full day.

It is understandable that staffing levels of small businesses cannot match those of large chains.

But if their opening hours are displayed then we all know when to go back if we find the shop closed, possible for a particular day in the week or a half-day perhaps.

Also confusing for prospective customers is the vague notice "Back in 20 minutes" (20 minutes from when).

In our local areas we tend to get used to the hours the shops re-open and take note, although again there can be a haphazard arrangement about the closing times.

Having opening hours displayed could benefit shopkeepers and customers and hopefully boost trade.
