Majority of Georgians Unaware, When the Country Will Join NATO - NDI.
Tbilisi. The majority of respondents in the National-Democratic Institute (NDI)'s survey are unaware, when Georgia will join
the North-Atlantic Alliance.
NDI presented a report on the results of survey on public attitudes in Georgia, in Tbilisi, on Monday, April 15.
According to the survey, 55% of respondents said, they did not know when Georgia would join the Alliance; 16% said, it
would happen in the next four years; 17% - after 2016;12% -never.
Georgian government's NATO aspirations were supported by 73% of respondents; 8% disagreed; 17% hesitated to answer the
question; 2% - refused to answer the question.
At the same time, 76% of respondents supported Georgian government's strife for membership in the EU; 5% - did not support;
17% - hesitated to answer; 2% - refused to answer.
Only 33% of respondents agreed with the oppositional United National Movement's proposal to fix Georgia's pro-western
course in country's Constitution. 22% disagreed; 42% hesitated to answer the question, while 2% refused to answer.
The face-to-face public opinion survey was conducted throughout Georgia, March 13-27. Overall 3 103 people were
interviewed. The margin of error made 2.5%.
Funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), the survey was conducted on the NDI's order
by the Caucasus Research Resource Center (CRRC).
