Major cash boost for animal shelter; IN BRIEF.

A NORTH East shelter caring for stray dogs and cats is celebrating after receiving PS40,000 in donations.

Popular animal shelter Brysons at Eighton Banks, in Gateshead, has welcomed the contributions from Th' Tulip Tree charity shop on Harraton Terrace, Birtley, with open arms.

Raffles, tombolas and collection boxes were just a few of the ways the charity raised funds for the animal refuge over a three-year period.

Tracy Holmes, of Burnopfield, County Durham, has worked at Brysons for over a decade and was blown away by the figure.

She said: "We can't believe how much they have helped us.

"When they first approached us and said they were going to support us, it seemed too good to be true.

"We have a great relationship with them and they've made such a difference."
