Major's election chief cheats on wife; Top Tory love cheat.
John Earl, one of the men briefed to put John Major back into No 10, left his family two weeks ago over a torrid affair with press officer Carolyn Hoy.
Central Office bosses knew of it but hoped it would not leak out.
But now Mr Major faces a new scandal in the wake of Junior
Welsh Minister Rod Richards's sex romps with public relations executive Julia Felthouse.
Mr Earl, one of the Tories' top campaign officials, has travelled the length and breadth of Britain planning the party's by-election strategies.
Stunning brunette Carolyn Hoy works in the party press office.
Their affair began when they were sent to Yorkshire to try to win the Hemsworth by-election for the beleaguered Tories.
For about two months the campaign chief and the press officer stayed in the same hotel in Wakefield.
And by the time they left they had struck up their relationship.
Two weeks ago Mr Earl told his wife Jane he was walking out.
He left the home in the village of Flitton, Beds, where they lived with their two children, aged 10 and 11.
Tearful Mrs Earl said last night she was "crucified" that the news of the marriage break-up had come out.
She said at her pounds 120,000 detached four bedroom home: "This is a private matter. Please leave me alone."
With a young daughter by her side blonde Mrs Earl, who is in her forties, sobbed: "I have got nothing to say."
Love rival Carolyn refused to answer the door of her pounds 130,000 home in Mortlake, London.
Mr Earl is one of the Conservatives' backroom wonder boys.
He was promoted to his current job by the then party chairman Sir Norman Fowler.
