Majlis A'Shura Office / Meeting.

Muscat, Mar 25 (ONA)-- The Majlis A'Shura Office today held its 14th regular meeting of the 1st annual sitting (2011-2012) for the 7th term (2011-2015) under the Chair of Khalid bin Hilal al-Ma'awali, Chairman of the Majlis A'Shura. The meeting approved minutes of the previous meeting and reviewed a follow-up report of implementation of its decisions and considered several proposals and parliamentary questions raised by the Majlis members to some governmental establishments and departments about different issues. Among these issues are charges on applications to change the use of agricultural lands to other non-farm uses, service dues settlement, electricity and water bills, sand dunes and urban planning in the Wilayat of Busher and social situation observatory. The Office also reviewed the reply from the Higher Education Ministry regarding a letter from academics at Applied Sciences college in Sohar. At Majlis international activity level, the meeting reviewed invitations and letters from international parliamentary authorities and organizations dealing with strengthening and supporting bilateral relations between them and Majlis A'Shura. On the other hand Majlis A'Shura held today a joint meeting with a number of officials from the Oil and Gas sector in the sultanate to discuss several aspects relating to this sector and the role of Oman Oil Company (OOC). The meeting was patronized over by Khalid bin Hilal al-Ma'awali, Chairman of the Majlis A'Shura and attended by members of Office, members of economic committee and Nasser bin Khamis al-Jashmi , Undersecretary of the Oil and Gas Ministry, Chairman of OOC Board of Directors and CEO and CEOs of subsidiary companies. Al-Jashmi briefed the meeting on the company and its various projects within and outside the Sultanate. He also talked about the company's plans related to human resources and social responsibility. He briefed the meeting on financial and operational performance of the company and pointed at some economic indicators that the company contributes to and its future plans. CEOs of subsidiary companies individually presented detailed descriptions of their companies, their financial and operational performance, challenges they face and their future plans. On his side al-Jashmi said that the company tries to actively participate and sustain development in Omani society through recruitment policy and Omanization. It tries to increase number of Omani officials and rise up Omanization percentage, adding that the company is firm on increasing its programs and initiatives in community service, especially in recruitment and training linked to recruitment and helping Omani cadre in developing their capabilities and skills in a number of fields, especially in education. It is worth mentioning that OOC is a commercial company owned by the Sultanate's government. It was established in 1996 to the government another tool to follow up investment opportunities in energy sector within and outside the Sultanate. OOC has managed and in a short period of time to contribute to the development of several important projects like The Oman India Fertilizer Company (OMIFCO), Sohar Aluminum Company and Salalah Methanol Company. OOC investments are located in Oman and 9 other countries, including 36 projects in energy sector like oil exploration, production and processing, infrastructure projects, petrochemicals, transport, refinery and oil marketing and mining. Member of the Majlis A'Shura Office and economic committee discussed with the guests issues related to the company, specializations, policies, future goals and what has been achieved in the past years in establishing its planned goals which would benefit the country. ----Ends /MN/FS
