Majlis A'Shura Hosts Education Minister.
Muscat, May 29 (ONA) ---- During the 17 th sitting of the first annual session of its 8 th term, which was held under the chair of Khalid bin Hilal al- Ma'awali,Chairman of Majlis A'Shura, the Majlis hosted Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed al- Shibaniyah, Minister of Education to deliver the Ministry's statement on the education plans and programs implemented by the Ministry.

A'Shura delivered a speech where he said that the achievements made in education since the beginning of the blessed Renaissance provide clear evidence on the achievements made to make education the main aim of the nation and translate His Majesty the Sultan's quote ' we will teach our sons even under the shadow of a tree' into reality.
Afterward, Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed al- Shibaniyah, Minister of Education delivered the Ministry's statement which included a number of themes including the strategy, the five-year plans, the achievement made in this regard, the quality in education and curricula, the education legislation and policies, private education in the Sultanate and the international competitions. The statement included a separate theme on the specializedhuman resources in education services and projects.
She pointed out that the Ministry of Education initiated a number of development programs and projects that have been approved at the 8 th five-year plan including ' the national Centre for Education and Examination Assessment" , the Specialized Centre for Educators' Vocational Training', the School performance Evaluation Centre', the School Curricula Criteria', Education Philosophy' Document and ' School Education Law' Document.
She pointed out that while great efforts have been made, challenges are still there, therefore we need the collaboration of all efforts to find suitable solutions to overcome challenges, such as the growth of the number of new born, the increase in school construction cost, the delay in school construction projects delivery and the low number of Omani graduates in certain specialties.

A'Shura then raised questions on the low quality of education graduates in the Sultanate, as stated in certain education indicators, despite the public expenditure on education and the initiatives, strategies and plans implemented by the Ministry.
In response to a question on the progress made in preparing the Education Law, the Minister of Education said that the law has been referred to the Ministry of Legal Affairs and that it will be soon raised to Majlis A'Shura.
Members of Majlis A'Shura stressed the importance of enhancing the education media role, promoting innovation and entrepreneurshipand selecting high quality and qualified expatriate teachers.
