Majlis A'Shura's Legislative and Legal Committee Meet Teaching Staff of Law Faculty at SQU.

Muscat, Mar 25 (ONA)--- Majlis A'Shura's Legislative and Legal Committee today held its 12th meeting of the 2nd annual sitting (2012-2013) of the 7th term of the Majlis, under the chair of Said bin Ghanim al-Miqbali, Head of the Committee. The Committee hosted a number of academicians, specialized in the criminal and legal fields at the Faculty of law at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in the framework of the Committee's study to the amendment of the Omani Criminal Law and the Criminal Procedural Law. The Teaching Staff praised the importance of the study of both laws by Majlis A'Shura for their weaknesses and deficiencies in the coverage of aspects and issues faced by the Omani society. The guests offered a general view of both laws and the legal problems related to them. The committee was also briefed on the views and proposals of academics regarding the amendment to the Omani Criminal Law and the Criminal Procedural Law to amend both laws or to develop a new law consistent with the Basic Law of the State and to overcome the shortcomings and problems in the existing laws. It should be noted that this meeting is part of a series of meetings listed by the Committee in its action plan during the current sitting in within the context of the current study the Omani Criminal Law and the Criminal Procedural Law project. ----Ends/MN/FS
