Maintenance lift bowling crown.

MAINTENANCE Units were crowned champions of the Bapco Club Inter-Departmental Bowling Championship at Bapco Club in Awali.

The event, which was open for Bapco staff, saw more than 150 members representing 12 of the company's different units in the fray.

But it was the Maintenance Units team who finished on top with a total 129 points after a stiff competition from the Drilling Unit team (120 points) who came second overall.

Behind them were Staff Affairs Unit (119) in third place, followed by Security Unit (117) fourth, Data Technology (113) fifth and Production Unit (96) sixth.

The remaining teams were Veterans (78) who finished seventh overall and ahead of eighth-placers World Sales Unit (70), Architecting Affairs Unit (63) ninth, Projects Unit (48) 10th, Geology and Oil Architecting Unit (42) 11th and National Sales Unit (40) 12th.

The last week of the championship got underway last year in October. Winners will be honoured at the awarding ceremony which is yet to be scheduled.

Individual awards will also be given away at the ceremony. Mahmood Omran of Data Technology Unit team will be honoured for scoring the high average of 191 pins while Mohammed Abdulla Falah of Public Relations Unit will receive high game award after scoring 254.

Talal Yousef, who represented the Production Unit, will be presented with the high series prize for scoring 656 while Hussain Ali of Maintenance Unit team, who scored 278, is taking the high game trophy.

Meanwhile, Bapco is organising the Masters event which gets underway today at the same venue. The top 12 bowlers with the high average will compete it out in this week-long tournament.

The participants will be divided into two groups of six bowlers each. This will be followed by the Chevron-Bahrain Masters to be held from June 22 to 29.

The Banagas Doubles Tournament will be held on Mondays, starting on July 6. Each pair should not exceed an average of 340 pins. Each pair should play three games on the first week and three more on the second week.

The best five pairs with high total will reach the step ladder final round to be held in knock-out format.

After this event, the awarding ceremony will take place at Bapco Club which will be attended by senior officials from the company.
