Maintaining food safety is a priority.

The sad death of little Habiba Hesham Abdul Rahman last Saturday is a grim reminder that every step needs to be taken to ensure the safety of children. Habiba's death is being investigated by the authorities as she is believed to have died due to some kind of poisoning. It is yet to be determined the source that has been the cause of the poisoning. Such a case is the latest incident to have occurred in the UAE over the past several years.

Children's liver and kidney cannot process contamination regardless of its source as it quickly overwhelms their immune systems. Unless immediate medical attention is sought, the outcome can be deadly serious. It is critical that all variables are looked into with regards to children's care and safety. This would include the hygiene of food as well as their living environment. Training to detect possible poising for example is essential in making sure parents and guardians know and follow all necessary measures.

And those who break rules, must face the sternest punishment
