Mail Music: UNKLE, The Venue.

Byline: BARRY GORDON

UNKLE, The Venue, Edinburgh, October 18 *** UNKLE are one of hip-hop's most eclectic and inspiring outfits. OK, watching James Lavelle spin records while partner Richard File garbled his innocuous vocals wasn't exactly colourful, despite the lightshow.

But it is their ability to act upon other senses that captivates clubbers, fusing slinky beats with ambient vibrations and souped-up electro bass. Listening to it is like watching daytime TV you're not sure why but you can't drag yourself away.
