Maid in UAE gets 7 years in jail for setting fire inside sponsor's house.
Summary: She poured lighter fluid on the clothes inside a cupboard and set it on fire.
The Fujairah criminal court has ordered a domestic help to serve seven years in jail over charges of deliberately setting fire inside her sponsor's house. Court records showed that the suspect intentionally poured an inflammable liquid in a cupboard full of clothes and set it on fire with the intention to damage the entire house of her sponsor. The Fujairah Police, alerted of the fire, rushed to the scene, arrested the domestic help, and referred her to the public prosecution. The suspect denied the charges, but investigations showed that a flammable liquid had been poured on the clothes in a cupboard in one of the rooms. The lighter the defendant used in setting the fire was also found in the cupboard where the blaze started. While no one was hurt in the fire, it led to a big financial loss for the plaintiff. The housemaid was referred to the Fujairah criminal court where the public prosecution requested the jury to order the toughest penalty possible. "This fire could have ended in a tragic death of all family members," the prosecution said. The court found the suspect maid guilty and sentenced her to seven years in prison. firstname.lastname@example.org
