Madcap homage to help local charity; Summer Wine Women bid for Leeds Festival fame.
LAST of the Summer Wine may be taking its final bow next weekend but fans of the popular show have already created their own spin-off.
Summer Wine Women, a short film created by husband-and-wife team Maz and John Bradley, was showcased at the recent Holmfirth Film Festival.
The couple, who have no acting or film making history, made the homage to the legendary BBC series after Maz was inspired by a film festival at the school where she works.
Maz stars as Compo with husband John taking the role of Nora Batty, while friends Pat Jones and Heather Coupland play Foggy and Cleggy.
Filmed around Holmfirth and Slaithwaite, the eight minute long comedy mimics the adventures of the original madcap trio and their antics around the Yorkshire countryside.
Having already enjoyed the thrill of seeing their amateur film on the big screen of the Picturedrome, Maz has now decided to enter it for the prestigious Leeds Film Festival.
She said: "We love Summer Wine because it's something for older people to laugh at.
"Our film is about three daft women and what they get up to having a race, one on a horse, one on a scooter and one on a bike.
"People who've seen it have been in stitches.
"We put it together in two weeks and my husband did all the editing and filming.
"My friends were really up for it and we just had such fun doing it.
"We're just up for anything and wanted to have a laugh."
Maz said a showing of the film at Slaithwaite Civic Hall for the Good Companions group had gone down a storm and they were now selling copies to raise money for Andrea's Gift - a Yorkshire based charity helping those affected by brain tumours.
The group are selling copies of the film at a coffee morning from 10am today (Saturday) at Rose Cottage, Blakestones, Slaithwaite (near Two Gates School) - all welcome. * Call Heather on 07842 919479 for DVD orders priced pounds 3:50.
