Mad for Mexico.

It may be centuries old, but the rich history of handcrafted work in Mexico provides a fertile resource for today's designers and manufacturers. Whether made in Mexico by local artisans or inspired by them, these products incorporate the intricate patterns, saturated colors and traditional motifs for which the country is known.

1 | Hernan

Mexican kitchenware company Hernan now offers food products as well, such as Mexican hot chocolate tablillas/squares. which have an intense cocoa flavor and gritty texture.

2 | Espacio Sami Hayek

An authentic pattern handcrafted by the indigenous Huichol people of western central Mexico, the Mestizo Tallboy from designer Sami Hayek has an intricate bead pattern.

3 | Tilonia

Social enterprise Tilonia recently expanded into Mexico to work with such artisan groups as Studio Xaquixe. which offers handblown. recycled glass tumblers, bottles and chargers produced by formerly unemployed youth.

4 | MoMA Design Store

MoMA Design Store focused on Mexico earlier this year for its Destination: Design series, and several products have been incorporated into the regular line, including the Paper Strip Vase.

5 | Malene B

The Chiapas design from designer Malene B was inspired by embroidered Mexican textiles and fashions. It's in her Transitions collection, which is influenced by world cultures.

6 | Gary Cruz

Designer Gary Cruz will debut his iViva Mexico! rug collection at the New York International Carpet Show this month, and which incorporates traditional Mexican motifs.
