Macular Degeneration Association (MDA): www.macula-degeneration.de.

Macular Degeneration is a disease of the retina-center, which leads to practical blindness. Its significance is on the increase due to a longer life expectancy in the western world; however, it was generally regarded as not treatable. In the past, many patients diagnosed with macular degeneration (MD) have felt abandoned by their ophthalmologist, particularly as their vision deteriorated--whether rapidly or slowly.

Due to this situation, the Macular Degeneration Association (MDA) was formed in 1995 in Regensburg, Germany. Since then, the MDA has become a source of information for those seeking help and advice far beyond the borders of Germany. Some of the objectives of the MDA are: To give comprehensive information about the disease and the various treatment methods available to those affected by macular degeneration; the promotion of research in the field of retina diseases, considering the possibilities and limits of technology and biological medicine, among others.
