Macromedia Flash Animation Now Native in RealSystem 5.0

Flash Animation Joins RealAudio, RealVideo in Streaming Media System

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Macromedia, Inc. (Nasdaq: MACR), today announced that Flash(TM), the easiest way to create and view fast, high-quality Web multimedia, is being integrated as a standard component of RealNetworks'(TM) new RealSystem(TM) 5.0. RealSystem is a client-server streaming media solution that includes RealPlayers(TM), RealServers(TM) and publishing tools. The relationship between Macromedia and RealNetworks combines the award-winning multimedia of the Macromedia Flash animation tool with the advanced streaming capabilities of RealNetworks' RealSystem 5.0. Flash animation in the RealSystem, referred to as "RealFlash(TM)," now becomes a standard in the RealPlayer client software. RealFlash streams will be sold by both RealNetworks and Macromedia with RealServers.

Using Flash's interactive authoring abilities and RealSystem 5.0, developers can now create everything from cinematic presentations to full length cartoons with perfectly synchronized audio and sound effects. Advertisers using Flash can create streaming, TV-like commercials for the Web complete with dialog, animation and near-CD quality sound.
