Machine tooling and welding student takes top honor.

Chance Pausch, North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, N.D. received ATEA's 2011 Outstanding Technical Student Award. He is a student in the Machine Tooling and Welding Technology programs at North Dakota State College of Science. The recipient of this award must be a full-time student in a postsecondary technical education program of study. The student must be very strong academically and show potential in his/her chosen technical field.

Pausch is described as a very dedicated student with a strong work ethic. He leads with his passion for learning and is a real role model for other students. Pausch has a distinguished academic record and graduated with honors from the Welding Technology program. He is currently completing his second A.A.S. degree in Machinist and Toolmaker. He was awarded first place champion at North Dakota SkillsUSA welding competition in 2010. He placed third in the welding competition at National SkillsUSA in 2009 and fifth place in 2010.

Pausch is very active volunteering on campus and in the community. He is a student volunteer for the campus DREAMS Auction. He not only spends countless hours working on the event, he donated items he created using his welding skills. He is also an active member of his community chapter of Sons of the American Legion.
