Machete and hammer thugs jailed over attack.

THUGS who savagely attacked a man using a machete and a hammer have been jailed for four years.

Dale Fowler and John Arrowsmith left their 42-year-old victim with a fractured cheekbone and nasty cuts to his face in the attack in Newcastle's Springfield Road in February.

The judge at Newcastle Crown court sentenced the violent pair to four years each behind bars and police have branded their attack unacceptable.

A police spokesperson said: "On Thursday, February 25, a 42-year-old man was attacked in Springfield Road in Newcastle by two men armed with a machete and a hammer.

"Dale Aaron Fowler, 21, of Wychcroft Way, Newcastle, and John Thomas Arrowsmith, 39, of Wychcroft Way, Newcastle, were both charged with GBH.

"They appeared at Newcastle Crown Court where they were both jailed for four years each."

Detective Inspector Neil Wynd, who investigated the incident, described the two men as "dangerous individuals."

He said: "Fowler and Arrowsmith are both dangerous individuals who will now spend the next few years behind bars.

"Anyone who thinks it's acceptable to use weapons like machetes and hammers to attack someone does not have a place in our communities.

"I would like to thank the local people in Blakelaw for their support and help throughout this investigation."
