MY BRAVEHEART; Denise Hendry's tribute to the strength and love of her Colin.

THE wife of soccer hero Colin Hendry has finally learned the true horror of her botched cosmetic surgery - by reading his diary.

Denise Hendry, 36, has no recollection of the six weeks she spent fighting for her life after a routine tummy tuck operation went wrong.

Incredibly, her first memory after the op is almost two months after checking into the Broughton Park Hospital near Preston, Lancashire.

And the mum-of-four has revealed how she only learned the real drama behind her battle after leafing through her husband's heartbreaking diary.

The former Scotland skipper had kept a constant bedside vigil for his wife.

Denise said: "Last week I found Colin's diary and now I know what he went through.

"It was worse for him because he had to sit there and watch everything.

"The night I had a heart attack he wrote: 'Touch and go. I don't know what I'm going to do'.

"Another entry said: 'She realises what's happening and panic is setting in. You can see it in her face. The only thing I wish for is Denise and the kids to be reunited'."

The devoted mum says she is now finally able to grasp the pain endured by Colin and kids Rheagan, 12, Kyle, 10, Callum, four, and three-year-old Niamh.

Denise said: "We have always been close as a family, but now we're closer than ever."

She was put on a life support machine just days after what she thought would be routine surgery.

But it went horrifically wrong when her bowel was punctured six times.

Medics told Colin she had just a 30 per cent chance of survival. Denise only pulled through after six weeks in intensive care and 10 further ops.

She is now taking legal action against the Broughton Park Hospital.
