MWMC BoD for investigations into audit objections worth Rs 3.5 billion.

MULTAN: Deputy Commissioner and Chairman Multan Waste Management Company (MWMC) Amir Khatak Tuesday chaired 40th meeting of Board of Directors (BoD) that decided sending audit paras worth Rs 3.5 billion as references to investigation departments concerned for further investigations.

Speaking on the occasion, Khatak said that a permanent Managing Director would soon be appointed by provincial government to run affairs of MWMC.

The BoD also decided to give assistant commissioner city Qazi Mansoor the additional charge as Managing Director of MWMC till the time a full fledged MD is appointed by the provincial government.

The DC said that action against those involved in corruption in the company would not be stopped.

He said that MWMC was performing better despite facing shortage of around 1000 sanitary workers but there was still room for improvement.

He warned the company officials of action if they did not bring further improvement to meet the desired results regarding city's cleanliness.

The BoD decided to recruit more sanitary workers through a third party and to issue tenders inviting private firms for maintenance of operational vehicles and their fuel expenses.

Khatak said that existing strength of sanitary workers was one to 1300 citizens that was far below the international standards.

He asked MWMC to initiate tender process to meet the shortage of vehicles and sanitary workers.

MWMC manager operations Daud Makki said that the company was covering 70 per cent of city despite shortage of manpower.

The BoD decided to prepare a comprehensive summary for law making to empower officials to penalize the citizens over throwing waste and construction material at public places.

The BoD also approved honorarium for sanitary workers who performed duties on gazetted holidays.
