 MVMA REPORTS PRELIMINARY NEW TRUCK SALES FOR AUGUST
 WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Franchised dealers of truck


manufacturers sold 389,728 units in August -- the highest August sales since 1989 -- according to a preliminary report issued today by the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association of the United States, Inc.
 Retail sales for the month ran 22.6 percent above the 317,824 units sold for the month a year ago. There were 26 selling days in this period compared with 27 a year ago.
 August sales were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4,703,000, a 23.5 percent increase from the August 1991 seasonally adjusted rate of 3,809,000 units.
