MUSICOM TO MARKET BEATLES ALBUM ART COLLECTION

CANNES, France, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Denny Somach, Grammy Award- winning producer and president of Musicom, announced at the MIDEM International Music Conference that the company has successfully completed negotiations with Apple Corps. Ltd. for the international rights to produce and market a series of limited-edition Beatles collectibles.
The Beatles Collection will be a limited edition series of 9,800 museum-quality lithographic prints of each of the original 12 albums as released by EMI. Each print will be hand-numbered and is plate signed by all four Beatles. According to Somach, a collector and noted authority on the Beatles, "This will be the first collectible of its type in the marketplace. It has taken over 18 years to bring everybody together to produce this historic collection and we are thrilled to be releasing the collection in time for the 30th anniversary of the Beatles in America."
The albums for which the art was commissioned sold a total of 1 billion units and the images are some of the most familiar pieces of art in the world. The original 12 albums are: "With the Beatles," "Beatles for Sale," "Please, Please Me," "Hard Day's Night," "Help!," "Rubber Soul," "Revolver," "Magical Mystery Tour," "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," "The White Album," "Abbey Road" and "Let It Be." "These albums include some of the most influential album cover designs of all time," stated Somach.
Musicom plans to publish The Beatles Collection this summer and distribute it worldwide by early fall. 1994 marks the 30th anniversary of the Beatles in America and the collection will be exhibited in cities around the country through a select group of major-market radio stations. Plans have been made for similar events in Great Britain, Europe and Japan.
Late last year, Musicom International commenced marketing The Record Art Collection, a series of limited-edition prints of artwork created for 18 of the most famous rock albums ever released. The company plans to produce collections for other genres of music including Country, Classical and Broadway Musicals as well as other music and entertainment collectibles.
CEO Somach is a Grammy Award-winning producer, author and America's leading independent producer of syndicated music programming for radio. He wrote the best-selling history of the Beatles, "Ticket to Ride," and is widely respected as a rock authority, historian and collector.
