MURATA DEBUTS 3MM TRIMMER POTENTIOMETER SERIES.

Murata Electronics North America, Smyrna, Ga., a leading innovator in electronics, has introduced its new ultra small (3mm) Closed Cermet Trimmer Potentiometer.

The PVG3 Series can be utilized in the high-peak temperature lead-free re-flow soldering process.

Currently, the PVG3 series offers two terminal shapes: J-lead (PVG3A) and Gull Wing (PVG3G). Murata is recommending Gull Wing lead terminal shapes to replace trimmer potentiometers 4mm in size and J-lead in new design applications. Ideally, the series will be most beneficial to manufacturers looking for small-sized trimmer potentiometers with sealed construction.

"When designing a new series of Trimmer Potentiometers, we aimed to create highly-adjustable, high-heat resistant chips which could be contained in one miniaturized package" said Hisao Yuasa with the Variable Components Department for Murata, Japan. "Not only were we able to produce the only series of Trimmer Potentiometers to date that could withstand high temperature re-flow soldering, but the PVG3 series also features a sealed construction which protects the internal portion from dust and liquid - ensuring stable performance."

Other benefits include the ability to cleanse the chips in alcohol based solvents, the design of a driver plate with a cross-slot (suitable for automatic adjustment) and the availability of soldering pads in 3mm and 4m sizes. Further, in keeping with response to environmental requirements, the PVG3 series is lead free -- with Sn Plating Brass used in the terminals.

Potentiometers are integral in producing electronic devices such as copiers, printers, communication equipment and management information systems. They are required for gaining control of and offsetting equipment such as optical transceiver modules, optical sensors, base stations and wireless radio modules.

Engineering samples of Murata's Trimmer Potentiometer PVG3 series are available upon demand. The approximate price per piece is twenty-three cents.
