Numerous product introductions over the past few years signal a growing market-share battle among vac makers. Shorter product life cycles and technological advancements also have sparked retailer and consumer excitement in the category.

The challenge facing retailers is to position these introductions in a thoughtful way. It means more than offering consumers options to trade up. The merchandising should allow consumers to choose the product features that meet their needs.

Retail buyers are looking ahead optimistically to the fourth quarter. They expect sales to maintain their steady climb.
