MULLER WEINGARTEN MAKES LONG-TERM COMMITMENT TO AMERICAN MARKET PRODUCTION FACILITY PLANNED FOR CINCINNATI

ROCHESTER, Mich., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Muller Weingarten Corporation, the U.S.-based subsidiary of Maschinenfabrik Muller- Weingarten AG, today announced that it will open its first American production facility in Cincinnati in January.
At the new location, Muller Weingarten will design and assemble hydraulic presses, screw presses and diecasting machines for the North American metal forming industry, including automotive and appliance manufacturers and their suppliers. Eventually, the company expects to be able to build its entire product line of world class machine tools in the United States.
The company's new production facility will be located in space leased from Cincinnati Milacron, a leader in the metalworking and plastics-processing industries. Muller Weingarten also will move its sales, marketing and service functions, currently headquartered in Rochester to Cincinnati.
"Establishing manufacturing capability in the United States is a key component of Muller Weingarten's long-term strategy which calls for us to become a global producer of high quality machine tools," said Dr. Hansjurgen Hauck, Muller Weingarten's chairman and chief executive.
"Our investment in the new production site signifies our substantial commitment to the North American market, which is one of the fastest growing, most competitive markets in the world," Hauck said.
Since 1992, Muller Weingarten, one of the largest manufacturers of presses and related metal forming equipment in Germany, has been systematically expanding its international activities.
"Producing in the U.S. will allow us to provide customers in North America with equipment which adheres to Muller Weingarten's high standards and precise specifications at more competitive prices and will enable the company to strengthen relationships with current customers by improving service and responsiveness," said Hauck. "In addition, it will position us to boost our market share here significantly, particularly in the automotive sector, where structural changes in the industry have placed unprecedented pressure on relationships with suppliers."
U.S. sales for 1994 are projected to be approximately $15 million compared with an average of $5 to $10 million annually since Muller- Weingarten's U.S. subsidiary was formed in 1989.
The company has already received orders for six machines for 1994 delivery which will be built in the new facility. The first is a PA 200 Screw Press for the powder metal industry.
Muller Weingarten has assigned a team of German engineers from its state-of-the-art plant in Weingarten to oversee the design of the new facility as well as its initial production. A team of American executives will manage the company's overall activities. Muller Weingarten expects to employ between fifty to sixty people in the new location by the end of next year.
Muller Weingarten Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Maschinenfabrik Muller-Weingarten AG, a worldwide leader in the manufacture of large presses and sheet metal forming equipment for the automotive, appliance, electrical, aerospace and other industries.
