MTEL FIRST QUARTER REVENUE UP 25 PERCENT
ON STRONG DEMAND FOR NATIONWIDE MESSAGING
JACKSON, Miss., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ: MTEL) today reported that its first quarter revenue increased 25 percent over the same period a year ago.
For the quarter ended March 31, 1992, Mtel's revenues were $26,078,607 compared with $20,856,770 for the first quarter 1991. "Mtel's strong revenue growth in the first quarter is a direct result of continuing demand for Skytel Corp's nationwide messaging services in the United States," said J. Robert Fugate, chief financial officer of Mtel.
Net loss for the first quarter 1992 was $2,231,964 or 7 cents per share versus $1,580,565 or 5 cents per share for the same quarter last year.
"Mtel's per share loss for the quarter reflects primarily greater advertising and marketing costs that the same quarter a year ago," said Fugate.
Fugate added that, "In the first quarter, Mtel began to realize expense savings resulting from SkyTel's late 1991 agreement for reduced rates for 800 services. We expect to reap additional benefits from this agreement for the remainder of 1992, and for the duration of the multi- year contract."
As previously reported, Mtel has 196,800 paging and voice messaging units
in service as of March 31, 1992. This figure includes 134,800

SkyPager units and 20,800 SkyTalk units in the United States, as well as 39,900 paging subscribers in the United Kingdom. The first quarter units in service total also includes 1,300 units in Mexico, Mtel's 49 percent share of 2,600 units reported by Comunicaciones Mtel, a joint venture 49 percent-owned by Mtel and 51 percent-owned by Grupo Televisa S.A. de C.V.
Mtel's 1991 revenues were $90.4 million with a net loss of $11.1 million or 36 cents per share. 1990 revenues were $66.3 million with a net loss of $25.5 million or 90 cents per share.
