 MTEL EXTENDS WIRELESS MESSAGING SERVICE TO MEXICO;
 CREATES SEAMLESS PAN-NORTH AMERICAN COVERAGE
 WASHINGTON, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ: MTEL) today announced the extended coverage of its international wireless messaging system to include Mexico.
 With the commencement of service yesterday, network customers can access the only seamless, Pan-North American messaging system in operation, stretching from Canada and the United States to Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, now Mexico and soon Bermuda.
 The new Mexican portion of Mtel's network is provided by Comunicaciones Mtel S.A. de C.V., a joint venture between Mtel International, Inc. (49 percent) and Grupo Televisa S.A. de C.V. (51 percent).
 "The completion of the North American system is an important milestone for Mtel," said Alexander H. Good, president of Mtel International.
 "Our vision is to create a network that enables subscribers access to all their wireless services -- regardless of location," said Good. "Together with the development of Pacific Rim coverage -- including Singapore, with service in Hong Kong and Malaysia scheduled to commence in 1992 -- North American coverage takes us one step closer to our goal of connecting business travelers worldwide."
 Mtel's international service operates using a standard 931.9375 MHz frequency in all countries connected to the network. SkyTel Corp. offers coverage across hundreds of cities and towns in the United States. Coverage is provided in every Canadian province through an arrangement with Rogers Cantel Mobile Inc. Initial Mexican coverage will include 16 cities, representing more than half of the country's population.
 "Mtel designed the Mexican system utilizing proprietary technology to provide a variety of services and functions especially for Spanish- speaking subscribers," said Jai P. Bhagat, president of Mtel Technologies. Users can also send numeric messages directly through a digit recognition facility that recognizes numbers spoken in Spanish. And, remote terminal interface access allows dial-up by desktop, palmtop and laptop computers.
 Mtel is scheduled to offer coverage of Bermuda in April through its affiliate Telecommunications (Bermuda & West Indies) Ltd., which has been licensed by Bermuda's Department of Telecommunications to use the 931.9375 MHz frequency for nationwide and international messaging services.
 "More than ever before, business executives need to stay in contact with their offices and each other wherever they are. That requires a Pan-North American messaging system, with roaming access to all of the services offered by SkyTel," said David W. Garrison, president of SkyTel Corp. "By adding Bermuda coverage next quarter, we'll be linking a major banking center to this system."
 SkyTel numeric messaging services are available for $69 a month. SkyTel subscribers can add international "Follow-Me" service for an additional $7.50 per month and receive messages in all countries on the network. Additional per-message charges, incurred for each message received in a foreign country, are typically less than the cost of an international phone call.
 Executives who travel frequently between any two countries in the system can also select "Simulcast" service, where all messages are broadcast in two countries all the time. This service is available for $50 per month over the basic fee.
 The Mtel network relies on a user-friendly platform employing a combination of computer, satellite and radio transmission technologies. By dialing into the Mtel system through a central 1-800 number in the United States, then entering a Personal Identification Number (PIN), users of the system can reach subscribers in participating countries.
 The flexibility of Mtel's wireless technology allows for the integration of messaging with portable computing. For example, in February 1992, SkyTel Corp. announced an agreement with Hewlett-Packard Company to jointly market SkyStream(TM), a new wireless messaging receiver that will enable owners of the HP 95LX palmtop computer to receive text messages via SkyTel's satellite-based network, and in October 1991, SkyTel announced a joint project with AT&T Safari Systems and AT&T EasyLink Services to provide wireless messaging to the AT&T Safari Notebook computer using the SkyTel Link(TM). All these services can be accessed by a U.S. traveler in all the other countries on the Mtel network.
 Mtel, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., is engaged in businesses that include nationwide paging and voice messaging services in the United States; nationwide paging services in the United Kingdom; international messaging services provided by Mtel International; an investment in American Mobile Satellite Corporation (AMSC), and other companies.
