MTC ELECTRONIC TECHNOLOGIES REPORTS MILESTONES REACHED IN PROGRESS OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS JOINT VENTURES IN CHINA

 RICHMOND, British Columbia, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- MTC Electronic Technologies Company Ltd. (NASDAQ: MTCEF) announced today that three of its joint ventures in China have reached important milestones.
 Dongguan Paging System First Phase Fully Subscribed
 The initial capacity of the company's joint venture paging system in Dongguan is fully subscribed. Fifty thousand customers have paid a deposit required to purchase a pager and the paging service in the future. Construction on the initial phase of the project is progressing on schedule. The system, which will serve the city of Dongguan and its immediate surrounding area, is expected to begin operation shortly. later phases of the paging system will bring the total subscriber capacity to 150,000.
 Hubei Cellular System Fully Subscribed
 The first phase of capacity for MTC's joint venture cellular telephone system in Hubei Province is fully subscribed, with deposits received from 15,000 customers. Service for these initial subscribers is expected to begin during the fall of 1993.
 Motorola has delivered equipment, purchased by the joint venture, that will add 48,000 to the systems' capacity. Construction on this phase of the system is expected to be completed by the end of 1993.
 Shanghai Cellular Facility at Full Capacity Next 18 Months
 MTC's joint venture manufacturing facility in Shanghai has orders to manufacture cellular telephone handsets at full capacity for the next 18 months. Production at the 14,000 square foot factory, located in the Caohejing Zone in Shanghai, began in early May 1993.
 Background
 Dongguan -- Dongguan is located in Guangzhou (Canton) Province, between Hong Kong and Guangzhou, one of the most economically advanced regions in China. MTC's partner in this joint venture is the Dongguan Security Services Corporation, an affiliate of the Guangdong Province Public Security Bureau. The joint venture, which was licensed by the Chinese government on April 18, 1993, expects in 1994 to establish a cellular telephone system with an initial operating capacity of 20,000 subscribers. A supplier has been selected for the purchase of cellular telephone equipment.
 Hubei -- The Hubei cellular joint venture was formed to provide cellular and telephone paging systems in Hubei Province. The joint venture was approved by the Chinese government and has been issued a business license. The province, located in central China, has a population of 60 million and is the site of one of the largest dam construction projects in the world. The company expects the joint venture will construct and install cellular and paging systems in a minimum of six cities in Hubei. The joint venture partners are Hubei Province Sun Gao Communications Technology Development Corporation, which is an affiliate of the Hubei Provincial Posts and Telecommunications Administration.
 Shanghai -- MTC's cellular manufacturing joint venture in Shanghai was issued a business license by the Chinese government on March 15, 1993. The venture was formed to manufacture and market cellular telephone handsets and other telecommunications products. MTC's partners are Great Wall-Shanghai, PTIC-Shanghai, an Shanghai Broadcast Machinery Factory. China Great Wall Industry Corp., one of the largest industrial companies in China, is a manufacturer and engages in import/export trade. The Shanghai Broadcast Machinery Factory has manufactured a wide range of electronic products in China since 1952.
 MTC Electronic Technologies Co., Ltd. is a Canadian company headquartered in Richmond, near Vancouver, British Columbia. The company holds interests in joint venture companies that manufacture telecommunications products and will provide telecommunications services in the People's Republic of China. It also manufactures and sells MTC brand and private-label consumer electronics in North America through discount and convenience stores.
