MRS MOP; One of the Christmas highlights at Mop Towers is the never-ending cheeseboard. Each year, we try to outdo the last effort, nibbling on tasty cheesy treats throughout the festive season. And, of course, one of the staples is a potent, mature cheddar - the stronger the better. We forced ourselves to road test three supermarket varieties to see what should be on your crackers this year.
Matured for three years, while most supermarket cheddars are up to around 18 months, this really does taste different. It has a real tang and crispy calcium lactate crystals that add a weirdly brilliant texture. I'm amazed it has been beaten to top spot but my advice is to serve this and Wyke Farm.

Mclellands Seriously Strong Cheddar White, 350g,
This definitely has more of a supermarket feel and taste, while the top-rated efforts could pass for posh artisan cheeses.
Fine for everyday use but it just doesn't have the flavour for your festive cheeseboard.
Price: PS4.93, BOGOF until Dec 10
TOP OF THE MOPS
Wyke Farm Cheddar Vintage (Asda), 300g
Wow. Simply stunning and on Asda's current two-for-PS5 offer, just unbeatable value too. The taste is a little less full-on than the M&S favourite, so will appeal to a wider range of party guests and even kids. However, it still has the essential deep, rich tang of a properly matured cheddar and a lovely smooth, creamy texture. Superb.
Price: PS3.50 or two for PS5
Treat your hands and smell fabulous with this wonderful hand cream range from Molton Brown. I'm particularly in love with the Pink Pepperpod fragrance. It's intensively creamy and left my hands soft and luxuriously moisturised.
