MRA WORKERS' COMP FUND PAYS $645,000 DIVIDEND; PUSHES TOTAL DIVIDENDS ABOVE $8 MILLION

LANSING, Mich., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Michigan Retailers Association's workers' compensation fund today paid members a $645,382.41 dividend, reflecting outstanding claims performance by the self-funded insurance program.
Today's dividend, coupled with April's $310,026.52 interest-earnings dividend, brings the 1993 total dividend to $955,408.93. It marks the third consecutive year annual dividends have totaled nearly $1 million.
Today's dividend also pushes total Fund dividends to more than $8 million since the Michigan Retailers Association's Workers' Compensation Group Self-Insurance Fund was established in 1981. The Fund has paid dividends every year since 1982.
"The Fund continues to enjoy outstanding claims performance and pays significant dividends to members," said Larry Meyer, Michigan Retailers Association vice chairman and CEO.
"The performance of our Fund -- both in protecting retailers against false claims, and rewarding retailers by returning a sizable share of their premium dollars -- makes it one of the most successful group funds in Michigan.
"Its success is all the more outstanding when you look at the problems plaguing workers' compensations systems across the nation."
The Michigan Retailers Association's Workers' Compensation Group Self-Insurance Fund is affiliated with the Michigan Retailers Association, which represents more than 3,700 members who own and operate more than 5,000 retail stores in Michigan.
