MPs in call to scrap Catholic schools.

A ROW over Catholic education erupted yesterday after a group of Scots Labour MPs claimed it should be axed.

Kirkcaldy MP Lewis Moonie attacked Catholic schools, saying they 'indoctrinate' youngsters.

But the Catholic Church hit back, saying Moonie and the other Labour MPs who echoed his views were 'past their sell-by date'.

Moonie whose views clash with First Minister Jack McConnell said taxpayers' money should not be used to fund religious schools. He said: 'Providing faith schools is not the job of the state, as religion has nothing to do with education.

'Why should we pay for the Roman Catholic Church to indoctrinate our children?'
