MPI PROTECTS RIGHTS ON 'McLINTOCK!'
OAK FOREST, Ill., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Oak Forest-based home video distributor Maljack Productions Inc. (MPI) today filed in the U.S. District Court of California (Los Angeles), a lawsuit against GoodTimes Home Video Corp. alleging, among a number of counts, copyright infringement resulting from GoodTimes' marketing and exploitation of the motion picture "McLintock!," the classic western/comedy featuring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. The owner and producer of "McLintock!," Batjac Productions, assigned all U.S. and Canadian video rights to MPI earlier this year. In its complaint, MPI alleges that GoodTimes has no legal right to promote, market or release "McLintock!." MPI's Chief Executive Officer Waleed B. Ali remarked, "Michael Wayne, the film's producer has been diligently restoring this feature from its original elements which have been stored in Batjac Productions' vaults to create superb color-corrected and digitally mastered videocassettes and discs. So much effort has been poured into this never-before-released video, which is exclusively and officially authorized by the film's producers for MPI's upcoming release. We are convinced that this will make the motion picture's video debut a sensational experience for fans everywhere. The litigation has been prompted not only to protect those rights of the owners of the picture, but to ensure the ultimate superior quality found in the official MPI release." Exclusively Authorized by Estate of John Wayne Three decades after its original theatrical release, one of the most sought after motion pictures in the history of home video has finally arrived -- "McLintock!" MPI Home Video announced the rush release of this timeless classic, officially authorized by the estate of John Wayne. The western will be available at local video stores the week of April 12. This classic western film is a brilliantly created effort -- a unique collision of hilarity, action/adventure, and a battle of the sexes in a brawling western setting. John Wayne stars as G.W. (George Washington) McLintock, a tough-as-nails cattle baron, banker and leading citizen of the town of McLintock, a territory which is about to become a side-splitting war zone, as McLintock's wife, Katherine, boldly portrayed by Maureen O'Hara, returns after a two- year separation from McLintock and the West. Suspecting her husband of infidelities, Katherine is back from the east, seeking divorce, custody ... and revenge. Let the fireworks begin. Michael Wayne, the film's producer, states, "`McLintock!' is very special to me because it was the first film I ever produced. Since it has never been released to home video before, we want to make sure that the public gets the absolute best quality version possible. We have taken a lot of time and expense to restore the negative and soundtrack to where it is really better than the original." Stored in the Batjac Productions film vault for decades, this full-length producer's cut has been digitally re-mastered for Hi-Fi Stereo sound, and the original negative has been carefully restored, re-edited for the television screen, and color-corrected under the supervision of Michael Wayne. Ali said, "We are very excited about this release, primarily because the American public has been waiting decades to take this John Wayne classic home. It is considered one of the top ten requested unreleased films by collectors and retailers alike. I personally feel it's provocative because it takes on the age-old battle of the sexes in a comedic manner." "McLintock!" was originally released to theaters in 1963. A Batjac Production, the classic western was produced by Michael Wayne and directed by Andrew V. McLaglen. The film stars John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara and co-stars Patrick Wayne and Stefanie Powers. Screening cassettes and photographs are available on request. -0- 4/2/93 R /EDITOR'S NOTE: Rush Release - Available in stores week of April 12.
