MPI HOME VIDEO TO RELEASE ENTIRE 12-PART 1990'S MINI-SERIES REVIVAL OF 'DARK SHADOWS'; NEWLY EXPANDED PREMIERE EPISODE AVAILABLE OCT. 7
CHICAGO, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- While continuing its monthly releases of the original daytime version of the cult television classic "Dark Shadows," MPI Home Video is set to launch the lavish primetime mini-series remake of the eerie supernatural drama that appeared on NBC-TV in 1991.
The movie-length debut episode of the 12-part "Dark Shadows" mini-series will be expanded for home video, with more than 15 minutes of rare, previously unseen material added exclusively for MPI's release.
Set in a small, stormy fishing village of Collinsport, Maine, the intriguing Gothic tales of "Dark Shadows" evolve around the lives, loves and deaths of the mysterious Collins family. The all-star cast features noted film actor Ben Cross ("Chariots of Fire") in the pivotal role of sympathetic vampire Barnabas Collins.
Veteran Hollywood actress Jean Simmons ("Spartacus," "Guys & Dolls") co-stars as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, matriarch of the foreboding Collinwood mansion. The 1990's "Dark Shadows" also features former motion picture "scream queen" Barbara Steele ("The Pit and the Pendulum"), Roy Thinnes (television's "The Invaders"), and Joanna Going as governess Victoria Winters.
The critically acclaimed, multimillion dollar revival of "Dark Shadows" received several Emmy nominations and won the 1991 Saturn Award for Best TV Series from the Academy of Science-Fiction, Fantasy & Horror. This updated primetime version of the 1960's daytime classic was produced by Emmy Award-winning producer-director Dan Curtis ("The Winds of War"), in association with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
The MPI Home Video release coincides with the publication of a new commemorative book entitled "Dark Shadows Resurrected" (Pomegranate Press), and the successful launch of the new "Dark Shadows" comic book series from Innovation Publishing.
Following the premier episode's release on Oct. 7, 1992, the remaining 11 regular episodes of the new "Dark Shadows" will be issued monthly starting in February 1993.
