MPC decides to launch movement to defeat PPP in general election.
LARKANA -- A multiparty conference (MPC) held here on Saturday announced launAching a campaign in Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot districts to mobilise public opinion against Pakistan Peoples Party and defeat the party in upcoming general election.
The conference jointly organised by Pakistan Peoples Party-Workers (PPP-W) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) held 10-year PPP rule responsible for the multifaceted and widespread destruction in almost all sectors in Sindh.
Dr Safdar Abbasi, president of PPP-W, said that PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and his cronies had to be answerable to people for all the ills and the destruction wrought in the province during 10-year rule of the party. The entire country was asking where had Rs90 billion meant for the development of Larkana gone, he said.
He said the government had grown so negligent and indifferent to public issues that it cared less if people of Larkana were forced to drink 88 per cent highly contaminated water.
Babu Sarfraz Jatoi, president of PML-N Sindh chapter, said that it was need of the hour to focus on uniting scattered anti-PPP vote and inflict defeat on the party in upcoming election. The alliance should be enlarged and a think tank should be established to formulate future strategy, he said.
Haji Munawwar Ali Abbasi, convener of Larkana Awami Ittehad (LAI), said that the Ittehad could prove to be an alternative to PPP as it had already created a dent in the party's popularity.
Babu Sarwar Siyal, central vice president of PML-Q, claimed that Rs117bn meant for Larkana's development had been siphoned off. Huge amount of public money had been squandered away in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto and as much as Rs34bn had been spent in de-silting of canals, he said.
Syed Akbar Shah Rashdi of PML-F said that all the anti-PPP parties should field a consensus candidate instead of fighting separately. Nobody's ego should come in the way of achievement of the target to defeat PPP, he said.
He said that Mr Zardari was worried about Larkana's constituencies alone while the Grand Democratic Alliance had decided to challenge PPP candidates throughout the province.
Riaz Chandio, chairman of Jeay Sindh Mahaz, saw no real accountability in the country and said that if accountability were across the board Zardari and his corrupt cronies would have been behind bars by now.
He said that AIDS was on the rise in Larkana and health and education sector were in a shambles. A commission should be formed to launch in depth probe into PPP's corruption, he said.
Nasir Mehmood Soomro, emir of JUI-F Larkana chapter, said the movement that his party had launched against Larkana mayor for his failure to rectify battered sewerage system, road network and other civic issues had grown into a major movement against PPP.
