MPACT-IMMEDIA ADDS E-MAIL AND EDI MESSAGE INTEGRATION TO ELECTRONIC COMMERCE PRODUCT LINE

MONTREAL, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- MPACT-Immedia (Montreal: IFM) has announced an E-Mail and EDI message integration extension to its Electronic Commerce (EC) product, MessageWay(R). The enhanced product will link a number of leading E-Mail systems, residing on dissimilar LANs and hosts, with its existing EDI messaging and translation capabilities. It will also provide automatic directory synchronization across LAN, host and public service gateways.
This product will bring new productivity opportunities to the Electronic Commerce marketplace by uniting two of its major components, E-Mail and EDI. According to James Dale, vice president Sales and Marketing, "This is more than a product -- it is the next logical step toward meeting the requirements of a complete EC environment." The Electronic Mail Association has defined Electronic Commerce as "... the convergence of E-Mail, EDI, mail-enabled applications, and workflow messaging based on CCITT/ISO 1988 international X.400 and X.500 standards ..."
Dale continued, "Both E-Mail and EDI are playing increasingly important roles in the business strategies of companies across all industries. By integrating the two, we can provide a single utility with which trading partners can send mail, exchange public standard business documents, and access mail-enabled applications across platforms using the formats and addressing
conventions of their familiar local systems." The MessageWay enhancement, available on the Tandem

NonStop platform, will be integrated with the company's INTERCONNEXIONS(R) gateway service and Immedia EXPRESS(R) software.
All three of the company's products are currently used in production environments by major retail, transportation and government service organizations worldwide. They have chosen the MPACT-Immedia product suite because of its high volume capability, comprehensive translation facilities, data integrity and security features, and a strong set of management tools. According to Georges R. Paquette, vice president Research and Development, "When companies engage in Electronic Commerce, they exchange data that is critical to their business strategy and competitive position. As the transport mechanism for these mission critical messages, we treat every message transaction with the same care and security as a bank would treat a financial transaction."
MPACT-Immedia will provide these E-Mail and EDI integrated transport facilities to a broad base of gateways as shown below:
