MP wants new rail service to Liverpool.

A NEW electrified rail system should be built with four trains an hour between Wrexham and the centre of Liverpool, the conference was told Wrexham MP Ian Lucas also wants the line to provide a direct link to the booming Deeside Industrial Park.

He told the conference: 'Unemployment in Wrexham is now less than 2% and through companies like Sharp and Ipsen Biopharm we see the fruits of that stability.

'But we want to tackle the problems of traffic congestion that prosperity is bringing,' he said.

A project to electrify the Wrexham to Bidston line to the Wirral could open up the transport network in the region, he said, to extend job opportunities across North Wales.

Later, Mr Lucas told the Daily Post the North Wales transport partnership TAITH commissioned a report on the option which should be ready in the summer.

'It is a real opportunity to increase the number of trains to Liverpool from one an hour to four, with a station near Deeside Industrial Park.'

Investment was already going ahead to electrify the track from Liverpool to Woodchurch on the Wirral at a cost of pounds 15.4m, he said.

'A lot of the kit is already in place and it would be achievable and would also open up the transport service from Gwersyllt where there is a lot of development taking place
