MP opens school's PS4m extension.

ASHINGTON High School's PS4.2m extension has been officially opened by the town's MP.

The new building includes a drama studio, music room and a post-16 sixth form centre.

A multi-use games area with 4G synthetic turf, four mini-tennis courts and a full-size netball court have also been built at the specialist sports college. Northumberland County Council provided PS3.8m towards the improvements.

Labour MP for Wansbeck Ian Lavery, who officially opened the extension, said: "I am really impressed with the building and I hope the students enjoy their learning experience in it.

"However, the bricks and mortar are just part of what the team are trying to achieve here.

"I want all of our schools, including Ashington High School, to attract and retain outstanding teachers."
