MP in Tees jobs warning.

TEESSIDE jobs could be affected if the Government decides to delay or reduce existing orders for Astute class submarines being built at Barrow by BAE Systems, Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland MP Tom Blenkinsop warns.

The Astutes are the nuclear-powered hunter-killer subs that will replace ageing submarines which are now coming to the end of their operational life.

Mr Blenkinsop said: "We now know the names of all the firms in the supply chain for this order. It isn't just a case of local work for Barrow -there are firms on Teesside which could be affected."

They include Sembcorp, Bodycote, J R Hawkes, Switzer, Lionweld Kennedy, Saren UK and the NAP Partnership.

All projects are being considered as part of the Strategic Defence and Security Review, which will be announced later this year.
