MP condemns Blatter election; NORTH TODAY.

THE re-election of Fifa head Sepp Blatter is a "betrayal" of football fans, a North East MP has told the House of Commons.

Newcastle Central MP Chi Onwurah condemned the decision to re-appoint underfire Fifa president Sepp Blatter despite the arrests of football officials on suspicion of decades of bribe taking.

Culture Secretary John Whittingdale made it clear that the government would support the FA if it worked with other nations to boycott the World Cup, saying he had spoken to FA chairman Greg Dyke.

Mrs Onwurah told MPs: "Newcastle is home to some of the most passionate football fans in the world, and the re-election of Sepp Blatter is a betrayal of that passion."
