MP blames government for lack of attention to migrant workers AKIPRESS.COM - The government does not pay enough attention to migrant workers, MP Umbetaly Kydyraliev said at the meeting of the International Affairs, Defense and Security Committee of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan today.

"Migrant workers transmit more than $2 billion yearly. For 30 years Kyrgyzstan got the debt of around $4 billion, whereas migrant workers sent at least $2 billion a year.

If migrant workers play such an important role, the migration ministry should be set up," MP Kydyraliev said. Vice Prime Minister Altinai Omurbekova said the council for ties with compatriots was established under the President.

"Several events were held to provide support to migrants to the highest possible degree. It was suggested to turn the State Migration Service into the Ministry or to delegate its functions to the Ministry of Labor and Social Development.

This issue is on agenda of the government's work," the Vice Prime Minister said.
