MOVE OVER COCKROACH -- ANTS BECOMING NUMBER ONE HOUSEHOLD PEST

 ATLANTA, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Just in time for warmer weather, ants are taking over as the Number One Household Pest.
 There are more than 10,000 ant species in the world. However, Orkin's national survey of 7-10-year-olds echoed their parents' lack of knowledge about ants and their impact on our lives. According to Orkin, Kids Say the Darnedest Things About Ants...
 -- Ants are good for: "scaring girls; squishing; anteaters;
 shooting with waterguns."
 -- Ants can be killed with "lemon juice; soap suds; gasoline;
 suffocation; bug spray" or by "flushing them down the toilet;
 squishing them with a bicycle."
 -- Ants bite people because "they're scared of giants."
 -- Name 4 kinds of ants: "Bull Ant, Kentucky Ant, Australian Ant
 and Man-eating."
 -- Ants live "until they're stepped on."
 -- "Ants can give you AIDS if the ants ate something that had AIDS."
 -- Ants eat "nibbles of us."
 -- If ants could talk, they would say to you: "Watch it, I'm
 carrying stuff for an ant house."
 -- The best thing in an ant's life is "building the best ant hill;
 being the queen or the queen's favorite pet; stealing the most
 food for an award."
 Spring's warm weather brings ants out in droves, providing them with ideal conditions to breed.
 "Because ants have such fast multiplication rates and can invade homes in vast numbers, homeowners need to prepare a defense against entry," said Judy Donner, Orkin consumer specialist. "In two days, fire ants can product 500 offspring.
 "Even the cleanest homes attract ants," said Donner. "It's wise to have a professional perform a home inspection to find signs of ants and accurately identify the species for proper treatment."
 Atlanta-based Orkin is the world's best pest control company with more than 350 U.S. branches. Its parent company, Rollins, Inc., is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
